Building on an investment of £5 million over three years, the University of Brighton Doctoral College is offering 19 fully funded research studentships for 2015.

Most studentships are worth more than £60,000 and will support full-time doctoral study over three or four years.

We invite applications from world-class research students, to contribute towards our mission to stimulate innovation and test conventional wisdom in the interests of a better and fairer world.

Eligibility and entry requirements

Before making your application, please check that you meet the entry requirements.

Academic entry requirements
For most projects, applicants should have a minimum of a 2:1 undergraduate degree and desirably hold or expect to achieve excellent grades in a masters degree, in a relevant subject from a UK university or comparable qualifications from another recognised university.

Applicants are also required to submit a 1,000 word research proposal.

English language entry requirements
Applicants whose first language is not English, must have successfully completed a Secure English language Test (SELT) in the last two years. Applicants who have obtained or are studying for a UK degree may apply without a SELT. However, the university may request a SELT is taken as part of any award made.
English language IELTS requirements are:

Engineering Doctorate (EngD): a minimum of 7.0 overall and 7.0 in writing.
College of Arts and Humanities and School of Health Professions: 7.0 overall, 7 for writing, and none below 6.5.
Brighton Business School and School of Sport and Service Management: 7.0 overall, 7 for writing, and none below 6.0.
School of Computing, Engineering and Mathematics and School of Environment and Technology: a minimum of 6.0 in each component.
For all other subjects: 6.5 overall and minimum 6.0 for writing.
If you have an English language qualification other than IELTS, please contact us to see if you are eligible to apply for a studentship. The UK Home Office will not accept TOEFL tests as proof of meeting the English language requirements.

Current doctoral students and those already in possession of a doctorate are not eligible to apply.

Making your application

We will only consider complete applications – the application is complete once you have uploaded all of the following:

Your research proposal (maximum 1,000 words).
Copies of your bachelors and master certificates, including transcripts.
Copy of your IELTS (or equivalent) certificate (if applicable).
Copy of your passport.
Two references uploaded or requested – one must be an academic reference from your most recent period of study. Both must have been written within the last year.

About the award

The University of Exeter Law School is delighted to offer up to six scholarships of £5,000 each for students enrolling on the LLM in the 2015/16 cycle.

The LLM offers great opportunities to study across a range of modules taught by outstanding academics in their field.  The programme offers topical, academically rigorous and professionally relevant modules in a variety of subjects, including:

• International Commercial Law
• European Law
• Human Rights
• Intellectual Property
• Maritime Law

Scholarships will be awarded on academic merit.

How to apply

In order to apply you will need to hold an offer for a place on the LLM at Exeter starting in September 2015.

You will also need to complete an online web form where you must submit some personal details and upload the following documents by 12:00 noon on 31st March 2015:

• CV
• Statement of up to 1,000 words outlining your academic interests, any prior relevant experience and reasons for wishing to study LLM at Exeter
• Transcript of your highest qualification to date or an interim transcript if you are still studying
• IELTS/TOEFL certificate – where applicable
• 2 academic references

Successful applicants will be notified directly following an internal selection process.

International fees and financial support

Undergraduate International Scholarships

Over 100 scholarships will be available for entry in 2015 to new self-financing full-time students eligible to pay international fees.

These scholarships will be to the value of 25% of the programme tuition fee and that value will be credited to the student’s tuition fee account.

The Loughborough University International Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of outstanding academic achievement and potential. Each scholarship will be for the first year of study only.

Application Process for Undergraduate applicants

International undergraduate applicants will automatically be considered for a Loughborough University International Scholarship.

Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of outstanding academic achievement and potential.

Normally students will be advised if they are being awarded a scholarship with their offer of a place, though in some circumstances the scholarship offer may be sent later.

Any award made to an applicant holding a conditional offer will be subject to the conditions being met in full.

There is no separate scholarship application process.

Selection criteria

What is outstanding academic achievement and potential?

Different courses will have varying criteria for awarding these Scholarships. However, in general, students will be expected to have achieved, or be predicted to achieve the equivalent of A*AA to AAA in three full A-levels. Students other international qualifications will also be considered and an equivalent level of achievement will be required.

Only applicants selecting the Loughborough University offer as their firm (first) choice through UCAS will be eligible for these Scholarships.

* Chemical Engineering also offer a bursary of 10% of the tuition fee (payable as a fee reduction) to all self-financing, international fee paying students who are not in receipt of another University or Department bursary or scholarship and select the Loughborough University offer as their firm (first) choice through UCAS.

Deferring your place

If an applicant finds it necessary to defer his or her application to the next academic year, then the scholarship award will not automatically be deferred. In this situation, the applicant should contact the International Office who will confirm whether the scholarship will be available the following year.
