FIFTEEN PARTIAL TUITION SCHOLARSHIPS FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS COMMENCING IN 2014

There are five (5) partial tuition scholarships available for international students commencing their first course at UOW’s Sydney Business School in each of the three (3) trimesters. The scholarship offers a 25% reduction of the tuition fee for the standard duration of the course.

HOW TO APPLY

Applicants must meet each of the following conditions in order to apply for the scholarship:

  1. An unconditional offer to study a Masters program with Sydney Business School, University of Wollongong
  2. Commencing  studies in the trimester of which they are applying for the scholarship
  3. A Bachelor degree with an Australian equivalent average of at least 70%
  4. Address the following three (3) selection criteria in 500 words or less:
  • Motivation for studying your selected program at Sydney Business School, University of Wollongong
  • Outline how you believe this degree will help you achieve your career goals and personal aspirations
  • Describe the value you believe you will bring to your fellow students

  • An application form
  • Your certified academic transcripts
  • A copy of your University of Wollongong Letter of Offer
  • Your 500 word document addressing each of the above selection criteria.

SELECTION PROCESS

Applicant performance against these criteria is assessed by a scholarship sub-committee of the Faculty International Committee chaired by the Faculty of Business Associate Dean (International).

APPLICATION DEADLINES

Applications for Trimester 3, 2014 are now open. Applications must be submitted by 14th June, 2014.

Applicants will be notified of the outcome three (3) weeks after the application closing date.

Partial Scholarship for MA in ocean Governance Malta

The programme is delivered over 13 months of study, commencing September 2013. The programme is coordinated by the Environmental and Resources Department within the Faculty of Laws of the University of Malta, and is supported by: The Department of International Law (Faculty of Laws), the Institute of Earth Systems, the Department of Biology (Faculty of Science) and the International Ocean Institute

The Taught Component of the programme is  composed of 12 Study Units that will address the following topics:

 

  • The Contemporary Definition of Ocean Governance
  • The Marine Environment: biological patterns, processes & resources
  • Qualitative & Quantitative Research Methods
  • Marine Resource Economics & Fundamentals of Sustainability
  • Earth Observation of marine/coastal processes and trends
  • The Law of the Sea
  • International Marine Dispute Settlement
  • Regulating Sustainable Use of the Oceans
  • Regulation & Governance for the Conservation of Living Marine Resources
  • Contemporary Threats to Maritime Security
  • The Human Element of Maritime Crime: Migrant Smuggling, Human Trafficking & Stowaways
  • Ocean Policy Making: a practical exercise coordinated by the IOI that provides learning through the application of tools elaborated upon in the other study units.

 

A research component which comprises the writing of a dissertation (approx. 25,000 words) on a topic related to ocean governance chosen by the student, as approved by the Master’s degree programme Board of Studies.

Each study unit within the taught component has a value of 5 ECTS. The research topic has a value of 30 ECTS. Total credit value of the programme is 90 ECTS.

Key Studentship Information

The School of English, Communication and Philosophy is offering a number of research bursaries (equivalent to one year’s Home/EU fees) on a competitive basis to students commencing their PhD studies in the School in 2014/5.

The School of English, Communication and Philosophy is a large multi-disciplinary school which has a dynamic and highly successful research culture. Currently there are 126 postgraduate research students in the School. Located in the John Percival Building, the School specialises in distinctive approaches to research in English Language and Communication, English Literature, Critical and Cultural Theory and Philosophy.

In the most recent Research Assessment Exercise, 90% of the School’s research was rated at least of ‘international standard’ with 60% of research in English Literature and Language classed as ‘internationally excellent’ or ‘world-leading’.

The School has a thriving postgraduate community. Training and support are key commitments to help students build success. Our postgraduates play an active role in the numerous reading groups, research seminars, workshops and conferences taking place in the School.

The School has dedicated research space for PhD students providing a convenient working area close to all facilities, including the Arts and Social Studies Library, with its specialist research collections, such as the Cardiff Rare Books, and complementary electronic resources.

Application Deadline: To be considered for a Research Bursary you must have applied for a place on a PhD programme in the School of English, Communication and Philosophy by 5 p.m. on Friday 2 May 2014.

Number of Studentships Available: 4

Start Date: To be eligible applicants must be commencing the PhD in the academic year 2014/15. If you are offered a place for 14/15 and defer it to 15/16 you would not be eligible for a bursary.

Funding

This studentship is funded by the School of English, Communication and Philosophy. It consists of one year UK/EU fees.Students from outside the EU must find the difference between UK/EU fees and international fees.

Eligibility

Academic Criteria: All eligible applicants will be considered for the awards, which will be decided on the basis of academic merit, taking into account past academic performance and future research potential. To be eligible for these awards you must:

  • Be applying for a place on a full-time or part-time PhD programme at the School of English, Communication and Philosophy
  • Have submitted your PhD application by Friday 2 May 2014
  • Anticipate beginning your studies during the 14/15 academic year; deferral is not possible
  • Not be in receipt of a funding award from another source

Residency Criteria: The awards are open to UK/EU and international students without further restriction. The bursary will cover the first PhD year at the Home/EU rate. Overseas students would be required to cover the difference between Home/EU and International fees themselves.

Consideration is automatic on applying for a place on a PhD programme in the School fo English, Communication and Philosophy to start in the academic year 2014/15. To be eligible for this funding opportunity, your PhD application must have been received by 2 May 2014.
