How to Apply for The Belt and Road Scholarships for BS, MS and PhD at Sichuan University , China
scholarship offered by the Sichuan University for excellent overseas students from the countries along “the Belt and the Road”, its subsidy duration is identical with the level, category and length of study of an overseas student. Applicants should directly submit their applications to the Overseas Student Office of Sichuan University.
Scholarship Coverage and Criteria
I. Scholarship coverage
Full scholarship. The full scholarship is provided for master’s students and doctoral students, including the graduate students under joint cultivation. The scholarship covers registration fee, tuition fee, living allowance, accommodation allowance and comprehensive medical insurance premium.
Partial scholarship. The partial scholarship is provided for undergraduates and high level short-term trainees. And the awardees will be granted with a certain amount of subsidy.

The applicants should have the fundamentals of English or Chinese language, and meet relevant language proficiency required by their majors.
Requirements on education background and age:
Any applicant for a bachelor’s degree must have an education background of high school degree or equivalent education level, and his/her age shall not exceed 30 in principal;
Any applicant for a master’s degree must have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent education level;
Any applicant for a doctoral degree must have a master’s degree or equivalent education level.
Excellent academic performance.
Any applicant for a master’s/ doctoral degree must have strong research abilities.
Application Materials, Majors Available and Deadlines
I. 申请材料 Application materials
Go to the website for online application for International students: http://scu.17gz.org/member/login.do, register and apply for “the Belt and Road Initiative” Scholarship.
Notarized highest diploma. In case of a currently enrolled student, you must submit a certificate issued by your current school to prove your current student status. Any text prepared in any language other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized translations in Chinese or English;
Academic transcripts. Any text prepared in any language other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized translations in Chinese or English;
A Study Plan or Research Proposal written in Chinese or English (not less than 500 Chinese characters/words);
Reference letters. Reference letters in Chinese or English by two professors or associate professors;
A CD of your own works. Any applicant for music major is required to submit a CD containing his/her own works; any applicant for fine arts is required to submit a CD containing two sketches, two color paintings and two other works drawn by the applicant;
A Copy of Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Download the form from the China Scholarship Council’s website: http://www.csc.edu.cn/laihua or http://www.campuschina.org, and fill it in English. The applicant should go through physical examination in strict accordance with the items required in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. The Form will be considered as invalid in case of incomplete forms, or forms without a sealed photo of the applicant, or the signature of the attending physician, or the official stamp of the hospital. And the examination result will be valid for six months;
A copy of HSK Score Report (if available). Please attach a copy of the report with the application materials;
A copy of passport.
II. 申请专业及时间 Majors available and deadlines
All majors taught in Chinese and English for overseas students are opened for “The belt and road Initiative” Scholarship students. Meanwhile, in accordance with the needs of overseas students in China and the features of our university’s subjects, new majors and courses are provided accordingly. For the information related to specific majors, please refer to the SCU’s current Enrollment Catalogue for undergraduates, master’s students, and doctoral students. The students can be enrolled in spring or fall of each year. Any applicant for admission in spring must present the above mentioned application materials at or mail them to the Overseas Student Office of the International Office of Sichuan University before December 15th of the previous year; while any applicant for admission in fall must submit his/her application materials in person to the SCU before June 15th of the current year.
四、管理办法 Administrative Measures
The measures for the management of the students under this project are executed in line with relevant scholarship student administrative provisions established by China Scholarship Council.
According to the Measures for Annual Review of Chinese Government Scholarship Status, students must participate in the annual review of scholarship status.
The Students whose academic records and performance in the previous year did not meet the requirements will not be qualified for the scholarship of the subsequent year.
Those who fail to complete their studies on schedule due to personal reasons will not enjoy scholarship extension.
Students who need to suspend schooling due to serious diseases shall return to their home countries for rehabilitation, and bear their own travel expenses; as for any student whose temporary absence has been approved by the University, his/her scholarship status can be reserved for one year at most, but the living allowance will be suspended during his/her absence; as for any scholarship student who suspends schooling for other reasons, his/her scholarship status will not be reserved.
